Goals and Pot Roast

I have a weight goal, but to me it falls secondary to some fitness/health/life goals I'd like to achieve in the next year or so. Here they are to hold me accountable:

  • Run a 5k in under 30 minutes
  • Run a 10k
  • Run a half marathon
  • Master Crow pose
  • Do 10 real, no knees, pushups
  • Run outside in a sports bra, no tank

I'll update on these as I go along.

Today was an interval run - 1 mile slow and easy, 1 mile of 1-minute fast/slow alternates, and a slow half mile with strides at the end. I lifted shoulders and biceps today as well.

Dinner is in the crockpot. Organic local chuck roast (from my fav farmer's market booth) cooked with two cloves of garlic, a shallot, water and one cup of red wine. One of my favorite no fuss meals. I'll share pictures when it's finished.

What are your fitness goals for the year?

The Before

I have been heavy the majority of my life - I have been under 160 pounds twice since age 13: once in high school, during a serious battle with disordered eating, and also during the summer I finished colleged, during an incredibly toxic relationship. Neither were the result of healthy lifestyle changes, improved self esteem, or exercise.

In the first year I lived with my now-husband, I gained about 10 pounds. When we got married, I weighed 185. In the next two months, I was super-stressed, working two jobs, and eating out all the time. We went on vacation to Texas, and ate whatever we wanted. The pictures from that vacation were the beginning of a wake up call, and I started to change some small eating habits. Work became better, and I was able to quit my second job. However, the big wakeup call came in September, when I weighed myself on a work scale on a whim. The total: 199.5. Wow. I went to my first yoga class that night.

Since then, regular Cokes, weekly fried food, and frozen pizza have been eliminated from my diet; greek yogurt, fruit, and even veggies have made their way in. I've run 7 5k races, do yoga at least weekly, and have gone done from a snug size 16 to a 10 (in everything but Lilly and J Crew - that's a 12). But I still have a way to go. I haven't seen 150 since maybe 2003. I'd like to see it again, and stay there.

Hi!

This is the beginning of a blog, but hopefully the end of a lifelong battle with my weight, food, and exercise. From October to Janurary, I lost 24 pounds, began running, and fighting my food demons. I've hit a plateau since then, and am going to start this blog to work my way through this.

I work as an lean manufacturing coordinator in the automotive industry. I got married in March of 2009, and live with my mechanical engineer husband and our two dogs.

I started this journey because of two bloggers, Jenna at http://eatrunlive.com and Tina and http://carrotsandcake.com. I will be brutally honest throughout this - both with you all and with myself.

Starting weight: 174
Goal weight: 150
